Leave it to the youthful Independent, Mar. 8-11, 2012, to look like the grownup of New York’s art-fair week. The three-year-old fair, or “temporary exhibition forum” as they prefer to call it, founded by dealers Elizabeth Dee and Darren Flook, was elegantly installed yesterday across three floors of the former Dia Center for the Arts building on 22nd Street. Maybe it’s the mostly international crowd -- not even half of the 43 exhibitors are American -- but the end result involved little gimmickry and fanfare in favor of lots of minimalist sculpture, loose-lined drawing and the color black.

Meet the dealers and see what sets this fair apart from the name-brand Armory Show and ADAA fairs in this slideshow.
