One of Portugal’s major contemporary art collections, banker and art collector João Oliveira-Rendeiro’s Ellipse Foundation, is showing off its holdings with “The Last First Decade,” Apr. 30-Dec. 18, 2011. Designed to revisit the first decade of the 20th-century avant-garde through works made in the first ten years of the 21st century, the show features works by almost 50 artists, ranging from Adel Abdessemed, Slater Bradley and Pedro Cabrita Reis to Dash Snow, Wolfgang Tillmans and Yonamine.
Organized by Alexandre Melo and Ivo André Braz, the show takes place at the foundation’s 3,500-square-meter art center, established in 2004 outside Lisbon in the seaside town of Cascais. In addition to Melo, curators of the Ellipse Foundation collection are JP Morgan Chase Art Collection director Manuel González and Pedro Lapa of Lisbon’s Museu do Chiado.
