The latest body of work from Street Artist and former member of the Deitch Projects stable Steve Powers -- currently working as Stephen Powers -- is a long way from his days tagging storefront gates under the name ESPO, or from his torture-themed installation Waterboarding Thrill Ride in Coney Island.

This time around, the text-based muralist has been hired by ad agency Ogilvy & Mather to paint 10 permanent works, each on a different landing in the stairwell of the company’s headquarters  on 11th Avenue in midtown. The murals are comprised of quotes from agency founder David Ogilvy, such as “Big Ideas Are Usually Simple Ones” and “Tolerate Genius.”

Of course, the wholesome commission’s not a total surprise -- Powers is also behind some of the most honey-hearted graffiti in existence. For his recent Love Letter for You project in Philadelphia, he painted 50 murals on the sides of buildings with phrases like “Forever Begins When You Say Yes,” “Open Your Eyes I See the Sunrise” and “If You Were Here I’d Be Home Now.” Expect to see more of Powers’ vintage sign-style murals in downtown Brooklyn in 2012.
