RIRKRIT TIRAVANIJA'S PROTEST-PARADE IN L.A.July 19, 2011
As if there weren’t enough art-world action flooding Los Angeles this coming fall, busybody visitors can now add one more item to their to-do lists. Set to coincide with the slew of art fairs and the massive Pacific Standard Time project, Rirkrit Tiravanija, musician Arto Lindsay and public-art nonprofit West of Rome have announced plans to hold a celebration of free speech dubbed the Trespass parade on Oct. 2, 2011. The plan is to convene at 1933 South Broadway and march northeast up South Broadway to the Walt Disney Concert Hall at South Grand Avenue and West 2nd.
They’ve enlisted 40 artists, including John Baldessari, Barbara Kruger, Sterling Ruby, My Barbarian, Terry Wolverton, Andrea Bowers and Matt Greene, to write a T-shirt slogan -- printed in English and in Spanish – for attendees to wear on the day of the march.
The following night Tiravanija hosts a benefit party for West of Rome at Union Station with performances by Lindsay and Vaginal Davis.
