CHRIS GOLLON PAINTING IN TWILIGHTJune 9, 2011
Fans of the Twilight Saga series of movies (starring Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner) already know that the fictional Cullen family of vampires has impressive taste (esthetically speaking) -- their cliffside home is deftly appointed with Eames-era furniture and a muted modernist décor. Now, for the newest installment in the saga, Breaking Dawn, due in November 2011, set designers may well be adding contemporary art to the Cullen collection.
London painter Chris Gollon recently gave the filmmakers copyright clearance to hang his shadowy 2008 work of a demented baby sucking its pinky in Carlisle Cullen’s study. Gollon currently has a show of his otherworldly figure paintings on view at IAP Fine Art in London, and according to dealer David Tregunna, one of his pictures has also recently been acquired by the British Museum.
The most memorable piece of artwork on the show previously might have been the chromatic graduation-cap collage hanging above the Cullens’ stairway -- teen vampire heartthrob Robert Pattinson explained that he had matriculated more than a few times.
