CHIHULY AND DONOVAN,
TOGETHER FOR THE SUMMER

Aug. 18, 2011

A perceptive exhibition at Camille Obering Art Advisory in Jackson Hole, Wyo., is juxtaposing works by the senior glass-art pioneer Dale Chihuly (b. 1941) with the Brooklyn art star Tara Donovan (b. 1969), the winner of a MacArthur Foundation "genius award" in 2008. "Organic Forms: Dale Chihuly and Tara Donovan," July 13-Sept. 30, 2011, finds clear but unusual parallels in the forms that arise from Chihuly’s use of gravity and flow in his glassblowing and Donovan’s development of form and color from the irregular accumulation of everyday manufactured materials (like plastic cups and toothpicks).

The exhibition is Obering’s third show in Wyoming. In 2009, she organized "Influences of Nature on Abstraction," featuring works by Milton Avery, Richard Diebenkorn, Helen Frankenthaler and Joan Mitchell. The following year, she presented "Wolf Kahn: Refractions of Light, Paintings and Pastels" at the Tayloe Piggott Gallery.
