BROOKLYN MUSEUM HONORS WOMEN ARTISTSMar. 5, 2012
Women artists are the stars of this year’s annual Brooklyn Artists’ Ball at the Brooklyn Museum, Apr. 18, 2012, in honor of the fifth anniversary of the founding of the museum’s Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art. Sackler herself, whose foundation donated to the museum Judy Chicago’s famous The Dinner Party (1974-79), will be on hand to accept the Augustus Graham Medal, along with honorary chair Marisa Tomei and Brooklyn artists Martha Rosler, Amy Sillman and Mickalene Thomas, who are receiving the Asher B. Durand Award.
Keeping with tradition, the tables for the dinner are being designed by a group of local artists -- this time 16 women, including Natalie Frank, Chitra Ganesh, Kate Gilmore, Liz Magic Laser, Sheila Pepe, Kenya Robinson, Valeska Soares and Swoon. Each artist gets a 40-foot table with which to create their own one-night-only “environment.”
Details are still forthcoming, but an auction of works donated by female artists is being presented by artnet Auctions. Otherwise, cocktails start at 6:30 pm, a dinner and silent auction begin at 8 pm, followed by a W Magazine-sponsored after party. Tickets start at $750 and can be purchased here.
