ARTIST COMPILATION PAYS TRIBUTE TO ANDY WARHOLJuly 19, 2011
Bob Dylan and Patti Smith are among 18 musicians and artists paying tribute to Andy Warhol on a new “art-and-sound” box set, “15 Minutes: Homage to Andy Warhol,” debuting on the artist’s birthday, Aug. 6, 2011. The set, produced by Jeff Gordon, known for recording interviews and sound pieces for visual artists in the 1980s, and painter Path Soong, is selling at two price points. For $600, you can have one from an edition of 1,964 copies. Or, for a whopping $20,000 you can get a handmade, silk-wrapped edition of 85.
The set contains three CDs of music, interviews and spoken-word performances (repeated on four vinyl LPs), including a new rendition of Patti Smith’s song “Edie” and a 40-minute conversation between filmmaker Vincent Fremont and Warhol star Brigid Berlin. The package also includes 12 x 12 in. prints from 16 of the contributors, all made by ace silkscreen printer Alexander Heinrici. The prints include Nat Finkelstein’s photograph Andy, Bobby and Elvis and one of Dylan's own paintings on the cover of his 1970 Self-Portrait album.
The release coincides with a traveling exhibition that debuts at the Pollock-Krasner House in East Hampton, Aug. 4-Oct. 29, 2011.
