"NOSE JOB" ART SHOW FROM CARLO MCCORMICK
June 21, 2011Fans of the art world’s most eccentric curator, Carlo McCormick -- his show subjects have included blotter acid and record albums as well as now-conventional art fields like graffiti and Street Art -- won’t be surprised to hear that the Big Schnozzola is now involved in something called “Nose Job.”
But it’s not facial surgery. It’s a summer group exhibition at the Eric Firestone Gallery in East Hampton. Running July 15-Aug. 21, 2011, the show involves the nose cones of old airplanes -- scavenged by McCormick himself from an Arizona “boneyard” – that have been transformed into artworks by a range of top artists. Participants include Dan Colen, Jane Dickson, Shepard Fairey, Futura 2000, Tara McPherson, Richard Prince, Lee Quinones, Kenny Scharf, Swoon and Aaron Young.
The show is billed as a tribute to Andy Warhol’s Before and After, his iconic 1960s painting based on an early nose job advertisement.
