ANDRÉ LEON TALLEY, THE GALLERYMay 24, 2011
Now that Anna Wintour is a newly minted trustee of the Metropolitan Museum of Art -- where she has significantly raised the profile of its annual Costume Institute gala, raking in a record $10.4 million this year -- her caped colleague, André Leon Talley, is following suit. During the Savannah College of Art and Design’s annual senior fashion show on Saturday, the Vogue contributing editor and “America’s Next Top Model” judge announced the creation of the new André Leon Talley Gallery, set to open this fall.
Plans call for the gallery, currently under construction as part of the museum’s overall expansion plans, to showcase 20th- and 21st-century couture. “SCAD has a significant costume collection,” said press manager Emily Belford. “This is a way to house our permanent collection, which we have not been able to do in our current space.” Talley, who sits on SCAD’s board of trustees and received an honorary doctorate from there in 2008, has been “very involved,” she added.
Reports that camera crews were following Talley over the weekend suggest that he is filming a new reality-series pilot. The show’s plot has yet to be revealed, but we’re sure it will involve plenty of “fa-fa-fa fashion” face-offs.
