CHRISTIE’S HONG KONG DOES $352 MILLION

The $352 million total for
Christie’s Hong Kong spring sales last week might seem grim compared to the equivalent spate of auctions a year ago, which rang in a heady $515 million, a record for Hong Kong sales for the auction house. Whatever the cause, the slowing growth of the Chinese economy is being blamed for the more sober results, which echo the fall 2011 Hong Kong sales six months ago, which did $366 million.
