Christie’s International announced total worldwide sales of $3.25 billion for the first half of 2007, an increase of 45 percent over the $2.24 billion sold during the same period in 2006. (It’s worth noting, in light of the wretched weakness of the U.S. dollar, that the increase in pounds, from £1.24 billion to £1.63 billion, represents an increase of only 32 percent.)
