MUSCLE AT OCTOBER AUCTIONS
"Buyer confidence remains high," said Christie’s New York contemporary-art specialist Robert Manley at a recent press lunch, taking the temperature of the current art market with four concise words. Indeed, major art auctions in New York, London and other major cities this October have scored new highs in almost every category. Most observers see no signs that the anticipated slowdown in the U.S. economy, prompted by the weakness of the mortgage market or the high price of oil, has even touched the fine art business. Yet.
