Sotades Painter
( fl c. 470c. 450 BC). Greek vase painter. Active in Athens, he was among the finest Early Classical vase painters. Like the best of his late Archaic predecessors, he suited his style to his medium, yet he was apparently also influenced by developments in large-scale painting. He is named after the potters signature on some of his vases, though the decoration often complements the crafting of these so well that potter and painter may have been the same man.
