Ubeleski [Ubelesqui], Alexandre

(b Paris, 1628; d Paris, 1715). French painter of Polish origin. In 1669 he was recorded as being a pupil of the Académie Royale de Peinture et de Sculpture in Paris. In June 1672 he won first prize in the drawing competition and the following October travelled to Rome to study at the Académie de France. He returned to Paris in 1679 and in 1682 was received (reçu) as a member of the Académie, on presentation of the painting Louis XIV Giving Peace to Europe, a work that shows the influence of Charles Le Brun.
