Solis.

German family of printmakers. (1) Virgil Solis was among the most prolific printmakers and book illustrators of 16th-century Nuremberg. His father may have been Hans Sollis, a painter who acquired Nuremberg citizenship in 1525. By his first wife, Dorothea Dalmenin (m. 1539, d 1556), Virgil had at least 12 children, including (2) Nikolaus Solis, a minor printmaker. His second wife Margareta Lehwin (m. 1557) bore him at least four more children; two years after his death she married his former journeyman Balthasar Jenichen ( fl 1562; d 1621), who assumed control of the workshop.
