Savitsky, Konstantin (Apollonovich)
(b Taganrog, 6 June 1844; d Penza, 13 Feb 1905). Russian painter. He studied at the Academy of Arts in St Petersburg from 1862 to 1872. He took part in the second exhibition of the Peredvizhniki (the WANDERERS) in 18723 and became a member in 1878. In 1875 he spent several months in France where he worked closely with the painters Ilya Repin and Vasily Polenov. From 1891 to 1897 Savitsky taught at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture and from 1897 until his death he was associated with the Art Institute at Penza, serving as both teacher and director. Konstantin Yuon was among his pupils.
