(2) Antoine Rivalz
(b Toulouse, 11 March 1667; d Toulouse, 11 Dec 1735). Painter, draughtsman and engraver, son of (1) Jean-Pierre Rivalz. He trained with his father, in whose studio he was associated with the draughtsman Raymond La Fage. In 1685 he went to Paris and attended classes at the Académie Royale de Peinture et de Sculpture in the company of the Toulouse sculptor Marc Arcis. From 1687 to 1702 he was in Rome, where he frequented the studios of Carlo Cignani, Giacinto Brandi and Ciro Ferri. In 1694 he won second prize for drawing at the Accademia di S Luca with Jupiter Striking down the Titans (Rome, Accad. N. S Luca).
