Rainerius [Ranuccio; Ranucius].

Italian family of marble-workers and sculptors. The second of the great Roman marble-working families (see COSMATI), they can be traced through four generations from the early 12th century to the early 13th, with the names of six master sculptors. The work of the first master, Rainerius, is known only through fragments in the Abbey of S Maria di Farfa, Farfa Sabina (Lazio), and in S Silvestro in Capite, Rome (n.d.); he signed the latter works with his sons Nicolaus (Niccolò di Ranuccio) and Petrus (Pietro di Ranuccio).
