Perrissin, Jean
(b before 1546; d Lyon, 1617). French painter, architect and printmaker. His entire career was spent in Lyon. He worked for the Consulat, designing ephemeral decorations for ceremonial entries to the city between 1566 and 1608, decorated the Hôtel de Ville and the Carmelite convent, and was perhaps the author of plans for the Protestant church known as the Paradise Church. In 1569 he was in Geneva, where he undertook, in collaboration with the historical engraver Jacques Le Chaleux (d 1572), to supply Pierre Le Vignon and Nicolas Castellin with illustrations for a print series devoted to the main events in France from 1559. Perrissin transferred the drawings on to woodblocks. In July 1569 Perrissin and Jacques Torterel contracted to execute etchings for the collection, which appeared in 1570 as a folio volume under the title Premier volume contenant quarante tableaux ou histoires diverses.... The commercial success of this volume led to editions in German and Italian and many copies.
