(1) Antoni Peris [Antonio Pérez]
( fl 140422; d before 25 Jan 1436). He was well provided with commissions. The altarpiece of the Virgin attributed to him in the church at Pego (Alicante) of c. 1405 points to strong Florentine influence, and the altarpiece of the Virgin Suckling the Child of c. 1410 (Valencia, Mus. B.A.) shows close connections with the work of Miguel Alcanyis. The altarpiece of the Madonna of Mercy for the knights of Montesa (Madrid, Prado, and Valencia Cathedral) and a slightly later panel of the Martyrdom of St Bernard of Alcira (documented 141920; Valencia Cathedral) show him moving towards a more expressionist phase, yet within the context of contemporary Valencian painting.
