Passeri [Passari; Passaro], Bernardino
(b Rome, c. 1540; d Rome, 14 Jan 1596). Italian painter, draughtsman and engraver. Although he was documented as a painter, nothing is known of his painting. Adam von Bartsch listed 78 prints, but of this number only nine (157783; B. 7078) were engraved by Passeri. He supplied drawings (e.g. Brussels, Bib. Royale Albert Ier) that were engraved by others for use in books: Rerum sacrarum liber (Antwerp, 1576; B. 154), Vita e miracula sanctissimi patris Benedicti (Rome, 1579), with engravings by Aliprando Caprioli ( fl 157599), and Evangelicae historiae imagines (Antwerp, 1593), with engravings by Jerome Wierix.
