(4) Martin van Meytens II
(b Stockholm, 24 June 1695; d Vienna, 23 March 1770). Son of (3) Martin Mijtens I. After training with his father, he started his career by painting small enamel pictures in London (1714), Paris (1717) and Vienna (1721). He was in Italy between 1723 and 1729 and was especially successful with his small portraits in Florence, Milan and Turin. After visiting his family and working for a short time in Sweden, he settled in Vienna c. 1730; he was appointed court painter in 1732.
