(1) Israhel van Meckenem (i)
( fl Bocholt, c. 1457; d c. 146570). He probably arrived in Bocholt c. 1457, possibly after having worked in the Netherlands. In 14589 he received a salary from the town, and in 1464 he was in Bonn in connection with the sale of a house. He may subsequently have made brief stays in Bocholt and Cleve. For his work as an engraver, he has been identified as the MASTER OF THE BERLIN PASSION (see MASTERS, ANONYMOUS, AND MONOGRAMMISTS, §I).
