Max.

Bohemian family of artists. Anton Max (1734–1808) and his son Josef Franz Max (1765–1838) were both sculptors. Of the latter’s three sons, Josef Calasanza Max (1804–55) and (1) Emanuel Max were sculptors, working for a time in partnership. Josef Calasanza Max’s sons, (2) Gabriel Max and Heinrich Max (1847–1900), were both painters, and his daughter Caroline Max married the painter Gyula Benczur. Gabriel Max’s elder son, Corneille Max (1875–1924), was a painter and etcher, and his younger son, Columbus Josef Max (b 1877) was a painter.
