Master H.F.E. [H.E.]
( fl mid-16th century). Italian engraver. He has often been confused with Domenico Beccafumi. Tietze-Conrat suggested identification of the initials with Hieronymus Fagiuoli Emilianus, the Bolognese engraver Girolamo Faccioli ( fl c. 1530; d 1573), mentioned several times by Vasari in connection with Parmigianino and Francesco Salviati. Bartsch listed five engravings signed with these initials: Adoration of the Shepherds (B. 1); Christ among the Doctors (B. 2) after Lodovico Mazzolino; Marine Gods (B. 3), perhaps after a drawing by Raphael; Parnassus Profaned (B. 4); and the Effect of Wine (B. 5), possibly after a drawing by Salviati. Passavant attributed a sixth engraving to him, Two Cupids Riding Sea-monsters, in the style of Mantegna.
