Markelius, Sven (Gottfrid)
(b Stockholm, 25 Oct 1889; d Stockholm, 27 Feb 1972). Swedish architect. He was educated at the Royal Institute of Technology and the Academy of Arts in Stockholm in 191015 and then travelled on the Continent, returning to practise in the office of Erik Lallerstedt. He developed an early interest in housing and planning and was one of the founder members of CIAM in 1928. He was an author of Acceptera, the manifesto of Swedish Functionalism (Stockholm, 1931). From 1938 he directed the development department of the National Board of Building.
