(2) Angelo Marinali
(b Angarano, 24 May 1654; d Vicenza, 1702). Brother of (1) Orazio Marinali. He played an important part in the Marinali familys Vicenza workshop but also undertook independent work. Notable examples are the marble allegorical figures and a ciborium with saints in S Luca, Verona, and the marble and stucco figures of saints and allegories for S Nicolò, Verona, the churches of S Antonio Abate and S Nicolò on the Lido, Venice, and the churches of S Corona, S Giuliano and S Maria dei Servi in Vicenza. The figures of St Augustine and St Ambrose (S Nicolò al Lido) are particularly imposing. Angelos style is distinguished from that of his brother Orazio by a less dramatic chiaroscuro and by a greater softness of light, which introduces a sweeter and more elegiac note, although the formal character of his figures is close to his brothers work.
