(2) Francesco Longhi
(b Ravenna, 10 Feb 1544; d Ravenna, 1618). Son of (1) Luca Longhi. He received his early training in his fathers workshop and was influenced by the works of Giorgio Vasari and Marcello Venusti; elements from their paintings can be seen in the figure of Christ in his Crucifixion with the Virgin and SS John, Apollinare and Vitale (Ravenna, Pin. Com.). He also looked to the works of Federico Zuccaro, Correggio and, above all, Gian Francesco Modigliani ( fl 1598?1609). Like his father, Francesco Longhi executed mainly altarpieces for local churches (1586, 1604, Ravenna, S Giovanni Battista; 1605, Ravenna, S Maria in Porto).
