Larsen Stevns, Niels
(b Gaevnø, 9 July 1864; d Copenhagen, 27 Sept 1941). Danish painter. He taught himself house painting while studying at a technical school from 1884 to 1887. In 1887 and from 1892 to 1894 he attended the school of decorative arts of the Kunstakademi in Copenhagen. From 1888 to 1897 he studied at Kristian Zahrtmanns school, where he met the Fynboerne (Funen natives) group as well as the painter Joakim Frederik Skovgaard. In 1896 he travelled to Munich and Italy. The next year he was with Skovgaard in Sweden, and the two travelled to Italy together in 1900 and 1904; in 19223 he travelled in France, Italy, and the Tirol. He exhibited at the Frie Udstilling in Copenhagen in 1905. In 1933 he was awarded the Thorvaldsen Medal.
