(3) Johanna Sibylla [Sibilla] Küsel [Küselin, Kraussin]
(b Augsburg, c. 1650; d Augsburg, 15 Jan 1717). Daughter of (1) Melchior Küsel I. She is known to have produced 353 engravings, including intricate copies from, and illustrations for, the New Testament (1672) after Jacques Callot. In 1685 she married the engraver Johann Ulrich Krauss and subsequently signed herself ‘Johanna Sibilla Kraussin’ or ‘J.S.K. fe.’. Among her various book illustrations, some published by her husband, are a reduced, laterally inverted edition of Sebastien Leclerc’s Tapisseries du Roy (1687; Hollstein, nos 314–46) and Les Actions glorieuses de S.A.S. Charles duc de Lorraine ... (c. 1700; Hollstein, nos 104–24) after Leclerc; a reduced edition of Aesop’s Fables (1707) by Jan van Vianen (b c. 1660–65) and etchings after François Verdier’s Life of Samson (c. 1710; Hollstein, nos 17–55). Her drawings include an Oriental Warrior with Club and Quiver (1671; Berlin, Kupferstichkab.) and the Holy Family (1671; Coburg, Veste Coburg).
