(9) Kano Koi [Ogawa Sadanobu; Kano Sadanobu; Shinpo; Koi]
(b Shimotsuke [now in Tochigi Prefect.], Izu [now in Shizuoka Prefect.] or Musashi [now in Saitama Prefect.], before 1569; d Edo [now Tokyo], 1636). Pupil of (7) Kano Mitsunobu. He taught the sons of Mitsunobus younger brother Kano Takanobu (15711618), (11) Kano Tanyu, (12) Kano Naonobu and (13) Kano Yasunobu. Perhaps in recognition of this service, Koi was allowed to use the name Kano and to set up his own studio in Kyoto. He was eventually awarded the honorary religious title of hokkyo (Bridge of the Law).
