French family of artists. (1) Jean-Baptiste Isabey was one of the leading portrait miniaturists associated with the Napoleonic era. His son (2) Eugène Isabey became one of Louis-Philippe’s principal court painters; equally notable for his land- and seascapes, he represents a link between the artists of the Rococo revival and the birth of Romanticism.
