Indau, Johann
(b 1651; d Vienna, 7 Feb 1690). German cabinetmaker and architectural theorist, active in Austria. Probably a native of south Germany, he travelled in Germany and Italy and is recorded in Vienna from 1682. After 1684 he became cabinetmaker to Eleanor Gonzaga (162886), widow of the Holy Roman Emperor Ferdinand III (reg 163757). After her death he was emancipated from guild restrictions.
