Ince, Joseph Murray

(b Presteign, Powys, 1806; d London, 24 Sept 1859). Welsh painter. From December 1823 until early 1826 he was a pupil of David Cox in Hereford. Ince moved to London in 1826, exhibiting at the Royal Academy for the first time in that year; he was an occasional exhibitor at the Royal Academy and the British Institution and a frequent exhibitor at the Society of British Artists until 1858. In 1832 he was in Cambridge, where he was for some time a drawing-master. He returned to Presteign c. 1835 and spent much of the rest of his life there.
