Humphry, Ozias
(b Honiton, 8 Sept 1742; d London, 9 March 1810). English painter. After training at Shipleys Academy in London from 1757 he moved to Bath in 1760 to study with the painter in miniature Samuel Collins ( fl c. 176075), working there until his return to London in 1764. He exhibited miniatures at the Society of Artists from 1765 to 1771, and his sure draughtsmanship and delicate colouring can be seen in his portrait of Queen Charlotte (British Royal Col.). In 1772 a fall from a horse affected his eyesight and forced him to abandon small-scale works.
