Hosmer, Harriet
(b Watertown, MA, 9 Oct 1830; d Watertown, 21 Feb 1908). American sculptor. Although she was born, educated and died in the USA, Hosmer spent most of her life in Rome. Travelling with the actress Charlotte Cushman (181676), who formed a salon in Rome consisting mostly of women artists, Hosmer arrived in Italy in 1852. There she acquired the patronage of Russian and English nobility and became a close friend of Robert and Elizabeth Barrett Browning. She returned to the USA in 1900.
