(1) Antonio de Herrera Barnuevo
( fl 1621; d 1646). Sculptor. He was active at court in Madrid, where he executed sculptures for stage settings for plays performed at the Royal Palace. In 1622 he was appointed Escultor de Cámara. He also carved religious sculpture in polychromed wood. In 1638 he carved the sculptures of Venus and Adonis and a group of the Three Magi for the Hermitage of S Jerónimo in the grounds of the Madrid Palace, El Buen Retiro. These hermitages had their own chapels and combined works of religious and profane art.
