Hayls [Hales], John
( fl c. 1645; d London, bur 27 Nov 1679). English painter. Either he or his wife, Katherine, was a cousin of the miniaturist Samuel Cooper. His name also appears in a notebook, mostly written in Rome in 16512, of Richard Symonds, who recorded a recipe given him by Hayls to Grynd Vermilion. The recipe had supposedly been acquired from Miravelt who livd in Holland in Prince Hen: time, but it is doubtful whether Hayls met Mierevelt or visited Italy.
