Haugen Sørensen, Jørgen
(b Copenhagen, 3 Oct 1934). Danish sculptor. He began his training in 1949 as a potter and plasterer and also studied at the Kunsthåndværkerskole in Copenhagen. As a sculptor he was self-taught. Haugen Sørensen first exhibited in 1951 and began working with ceramics and bronze at an early stage. He produced realistic portrayals of animals and humans, often in scenes of life in Copenhagen (e.g. Slaughter Group, 1958; Copenhagen, Stat. Mus. Kst). Around 1960 he executed a series of non-figurative sculptures and reliefs in ceramic and bronze, including the Stomping Animal (1961; Humlebæk, Louisiana Mus.) and Spiral Animal (1964; Århus, Kstmus.).
