(b Berlin, 14 July 1939; d Berlin, 26 Sept 1994). German painter. She studied at the Werkkunstschule (1957–61), Charlottenburg, Berlin. From an early stage she felt committed to a concept of art that is linked particularly with the tradition of painting in Berlin as promulgated, for example, by Werner Heldt. This tradition comprises a down-to-earth realism based mainly on observation, aiming to achieve clarity and simplicity and arising from a deep understanding of forms. She found her own way within the circle of her painter-friends in Berlin, adhering to the ethos of an attitude towards art formulated by Paul Cézanne. An important source of stimulus within this circle was Ernst Schroeder (1928–89).
