Gualtieri di Giovanni (da Pisa)
(b Pisa, ?1370; d Siena, after 1445). Italian painter. He had settled in Siena by 1409. He may be the Gualtieri di Giovanni documented in Pisa in 140006 (Tanfani Centofanti). Between 1409 and 1411 he frescoed the vaults of the sacristy chapels of Siena Cathedral. Subsequently he did further decorative work in the cathedral (1414, 1415, 1424) and in the canons house (1416), where he was helped by his son Giovanni. Previously known as one of the Masters of the Sacristy of Siena Cathedral and credited with a major part in the fresco decoration there, it is now evident that his role was very minor (Mongellaz, 1985).
