(1) Jacob Grimmer
(b Antwerp, 15256; d Antwerp, before May 1590). In 1539 he was apprenticed in Antwerp to Gabriel Bauwens ( fl 15369); later he also joined the workshops of Matthijs Cock and Kerstiaen van de Queckborne (151578). He became a member of the society of rhetoricians De Violieren in 1546, and a year later a master of the Guild of St Luke. In 1548 he married Lucia van de Wouwer, who bore him four children, including Abraham Grimmer (b 1570), who was active as a minor print publisher in Antwerp, and (2) Abel Grimmer, who became a painter.
