Glowacki, Jan Nepomucen

(b Kraków, 1802; d Kraków, 28 July 1847). Polish painter and writer. He studied drawing under Antoni Gizinski (?1758–1847) and then trained (1819–25) at the School of Fine Arts in Kraków under Józef Brodowski (1780–1853) and Józef Peszka (1767–1831). He continued his studies under Franz Steinfeld (1787–1868) at the academy in Vienna, where he became a friend of the miniaturist Emanuel Peter (1799–1873). In 1828 Glowacki returned to Kraków, where he was based for the rest of his life, as a teacher of drawing and painting at St Anne’s high school. He also taught at the Kraków School of Fine Arts, where he was Professor of Landscape Painting from about 1840.
