Giovanni di Benedetto da Como
( fl c. 1378). Italian illuminator. An inscription in the Hours of Blanche of Savoy (Munich, Bayer. Staatsbib., Clm. 23215, fol. 1v) names him as responsible for painting and arranging the manuscript. The Hours contain the coat of arms of Galeazzo II Visconti and his wife, Blanche of Savoy. The fact that the opening of a prayer for Galeazzos soul displaced the planned miniature on folio 213v implies that the illumination was incomplete at the time of Galeazzos death in August 1378. No other work by Giovanni in any medium is known.
