The father of the family, Jacques-Fabien Gautier-Dagoty, is noted for his pioneering work in four-colour engraving and for the publication and illustration of scientific works. His eldest son, Jean-Baptiste-André Gautier-Dagoty, also became an engraver of scientific illustrations. The other four sons likewise were their father’s pupils and used his methods.
