Garneray [Garnerey].

French family of artists. Among the many pupils of the painter (1) Jean-François Garneray were his three sons (2) Louis Garneray, (3) Auguste Garneray and Hippolyte(-Jean-Baptiste) Garneray (b Paris, 23 Feb 1787; d Paris, 7 Jan 1858); a daughter, about whom little is known, seems to have worked most closely with Auguste. Hippolyte was a painter and engraver, producing landscapes of Brittany and Normandy (examples in La Rochelle, Mus. B.-A.; Douai, Mus. Mun.; Paris, Louvre).
