(2) Giuseppe Galeotti
(b Florence, 1708; d Genoa, 1778). Son of (1) Sebastiano Galeotti. He learnt Baroque fresco painting in his fathers workshop. Following the lead of Marcantonio Franceschini and Giacomo Antonio Boni, he later became interested in Emilian classicist art. In 1751 he was listed among the founders of the Accademia Ligustica of Genoa, where from 1765 he was Director of the school of drawing. He worked mainly in Genoa, but also in other Ligurian centres. In Genoa his frescoes remain in the presbytery and choir of S Francesco dAlbaro (which also contains a canvas of St Anthony of Padua), in the Scuole Pie (1750), in the church of the Gesù (dome of the first chapel in the right aisle), and in the Palazzo Campanella (formerly Salvago). In S Pietro in Vincoli, Sestri Levante, there are a St Peter in Glory and a canvas of St Peter Released from Prison (both 1751); in the presbytery and choir of the nearby parish church are some frescoes executed in 1770. His works on canvas include the Fight between Cupid and Pan (Genoa, Mus. Accad. Ligustica B.A.) and the Monk of the Caracciolini Order (Genoa, S Fede).
