Fortuny.

Spanish family of artists and collectors, active also in Italy. During his brief but highly successful career (1) Mariano Fortuny y Marsal became one of the leading Spanish painters of the mid-19th century. His fame and fortune were primarily the result of his historical genre paintings. His son (2) Mariano Fortuny y Madrazo settled in Venice, where he worked first as a painter but went on to build a reputation as a fashion and theatre designer.
