Farrand [née Jones], Beatrix Jones
(b New York, 19 June 1872; d Bar Harbor, ME, 27 Feb 1959). American landscape designer. She was born to a well-connected family, and her cultural mentor was her aunt, Edith Wharton, who introduced her to the great gardens of Europe. Farrand studied horticulture with Charles Sprague Sargent (18411927) at the Arnold Arboretum, Boston, MA, and after a period of European travel established a practice in New York (1895). She was a founder-member of the American Society of Landscape Architects (1899).
